Lavanya Pai

Lavanya specializes in operationalizing regulatory requirements and embedding responsible practices that go beyond compliance.

“As a child, I often accompanied my mother to textile factories across Tamil Nadu, where she worked as a social compliance consultant. Through these visits, I was exposed to the harsh realities faced by workers and communities in industries in South India, including the pervasive effects of caste, gender, and religious discrimination in the workplace.

This early exposure shaped my commitment to social justice and taught me the importance of listening, learning and asking questions. It also led me to reflect on my own positionality, helping me to learn about how to show genuine solidarity.

Having graduated during the pandemic, I witnessed how deeply entrenched social divisions had become. After having initially worked at the sustainability ratings agency EcoVadis, I began to realize that my interests lie in ensuring rightsholder considerations are heard and respected. This extends beyond my professional life into my personal values.”

With a strong sense of empathy and a deep-rooted commitment to social justice, Lavanya has worked with corporates across various industries, civil society organizations, and international organizations to support the implementation of human rights due diligence. She has held roles at both specialized human rights consultancies and larger organizations, including ERM, as well as sustainability ratings agencies such as EcoVadis.

Lavanya speaks English, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada, with working proficiency in French, and is currently learning German. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences with a regional focus on Asia, and a Master’s in International Development, with a focus on human rights and global political economy. Lavanya studied at Sciences Po Paris and SOAS University of London.

Lavanya seeks to harness empathy and expertise to foster systemic change, build meaningful collaborations, and turn complex challenges into sustainable solutions.
